Norfolk & Norwich Festival returns this May with another exciting programme of performance, music, literature and visual arts. Jarrolds has a long association with the Festival and this year will be supporting the return of the popular Ragroof Tea Dances.

Whether you love to Tango the weekend away, or whether you’re blessed with two left feet, the Ragroof Tea Dances are a wonderful opportunity to indulge in (or introduce yourself to) the heady experience of a bygone era.

Each year, the Festival installs the fabulous Adnams Spiegeltent - an Art Nouveau travelling tent made of wood panels, glass and mirrors in Norwich’s Chapelfield Gardens. The Spiegeltent plays host to the Tea Dances over the Festival’s middle weekend with an authentic mix of vintage music from the 1920s through to the 1950s and beyond.

The Tea Dances offer a chance for everybody, no matter their experience, to trip the light fantastic, with glorious dance displays from the resident experts and their trademark ‘Instant Dance Classes’ designed by the choreographers to get everybody dancing. You don’t need a partner either - the Ragroof team’s unique gender-free approach to partner dancing encourages everyone to take part.

“The Tea Dances have a wonderfully inclusive feel,” says the Festival’s Darren Cross. “It’s been a firm favourite with young and old for several years. There’s a lovely sense of participation and the Ragroof team embrace everyone, whatever their level of dance skills. You can drink-up the vintage vibes and dress to impress, or you can just come as you are.”

A double bill of Tea Dances will see The Strawberry Ball on Saturday 18 May. Think straw boaters and bow ties, or dig out your flounciest of frocks to dance whimsical Waltzes and feathery Foxtrots.

Sunday 19 May sees a Caribbean and Latin dance extravaganza as Ragroof invite guests to dress in their most colourful and exotic clothes for The Coconut Club. Expect a tropical cocktail of vintage Latin favourites, from sizzling Sambas and sexy Salsas to melodic Mambos and merry Merengues.

Both events will also feature a general mix of Ballroom, Latin and Swing dance rhythms.

Tea and delicious Jarrolds scones will be served and the bar will also be open for anyone who fancies a crafty tipple.
