Description & Specifications

A humorous, incredulous quiz book on the newsworthy events of the year, from one of the longest running brands on TV

WATERSTONES' BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2023: PUZZLES AND HUMOUR

The ideal gift to give this Christmas (to someone else or to yourself), this book contains all the fun of being on 'Have I Got News for You' without the fear of Ian Hislop pressing you on shady business dealings from 2008.

Whether it was Harry talking about his todger in his controversial autobiography, or celebrities from Gary Lineker to Phillip Schofield and Huw Edwards dominating the news agenda, plus strikes, inflation, wildfires, the Wagner group performing the briefest mutiny of all time, an ill-fated trip to the Titanic, and - as usual - a stack of scandals leaking out of the Cabinet, 2023 has had just as many newsworthy things you'd like to forget as any other year. Before you can do that though, this book is going to quiz you on them.

There's the missing words round, odd one outs, stolen formats from other quiz books, word searches, crosswords, mazes, and - as a word of warning - some close-up photographs of Michael Fabricant.

With over 1,000 questions on everything from politics to pop culture, Have I Got News for You: The Quiz of 2023 promises hours of entertainment and is probably the only sardonic souvenir of 2023 going.

About the Author

Have I Got News For You is a long-running entertainment show starring Paul Merton (comedian) and Ian Hislop (journalist and Private Eye editor), which delivers comic observations and scripted gags, from the satirical to the surreal, through the highly original mechanism of a quiz about the news. Given that Ian is an Oxford graduate who edits a topical satirical magazine and the other one is a comedian who never went to university, it's surprising how often Paul wins, said Angela Rainer.
Ian and Paul have been the regular 'team captains' since the show began in 1990, and for the first twelve years, were under the watchful eye of the host Angus Deayton. Following Angus's departure, dozens of different guest hosts have taken the reins, including James Bond, Captain Kirk, Sherlock Holmes and the Prime Minister.
