As to the fundraising activity we are of course looking to our staff and customers to support our fund raising and events, make suggestions and help in whatever way you can. We will continue with our successful fundraising event such as Carols with the King,  Colleague events, quiz and chips, bake days, sponsored activities, collecting tins in store but we are looking for new and different ways to raise money and will also be trying to include our customers more, and in particular will have an initiative in place with  members of the Jarrolds 250 Club. 

August 2018 Update

On Saturday 11th August an intrepid team from Jarrolds Retail leapt on board THE GOOD SHIP Jarrolds and took part in the East Anglian 2018 Dragon Boat Race at Oulton Broad. We made it to the semi final but just were not quite fast enough to get into the final.  Sponsorship that each team member raised will give a total of just over 1k to our charity fund.

Over the last 3 months we have been holding regular events in store for our colleagues - including raffles,  competitions, History tours of the store, Quiz and Chips evening and even guess the weight of the cake.

All this activity has resulted in our total fund having reached £21,500 - a great result and almost half way to our target of £50,000.

Big C, Norfolk’s Cancer Charity

The Big C story:

In 1980, two young men from Norfolk found themselves with cancer and having to travel to London or Cambridge for treatment, often finding this journey harder than the treatment itself. They vowed the people of Norfolk & Waveney would have access to the best treatment and support in their local areas.

Thirty-seven years on and this is being realised more than ever; with nearly £30million being raised since "The Big C Appeal" began in 1980. Surgical and diagnostic equipment at Norfolk's hospitals means increasing numbers of people can be treated locally with faster or less invasive treatments for a range of cancers.

Research across the Norwich Research Park has found some incredible discoveries into cancer and vital support for those affected by cancer is reaching out to those who need it, closer to them, in the local community with our Support & Information Centres.

Today Big C runs four drop in Centres across Norfolk and Waveney providing free emotional support, practical information, complementary therapies and much more.

2018 has seen fundraising begin to help launch a brand new Support Centre in the heart of the Norwich Community to help even more people affected by cancer, where and when they need us most. This new Centre, in addition to our Centre at the NNUH, will help support people who no longer wish to, or cannot, visit the Centre at the hospital.

Together we are improving the lives of local people affected by cancer across Norfolk & Waveney.

The Prince's Trust

We create opportunities for vulnerable young people to thrive and support them to build their skills and confidence.

We enable them to take responsibility for their lives and work towards a future they can be proud of. To do this, we support 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school or being excluded. Many of the young people helped by The Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law.

Our programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work.

Three in four of the young people we support move into work, education or training. Founded by HRH The Prince of Wales over 40 years ago, the charity has helped more than 870,000 young people since 1976 and supports 100 more each day.

The Prince’s Trust is a community. We champion young people, no matter what their background. Despite lives stifled by unemployment, homelessness, being in care or being in trouble with the law, young people can succeed with your help.

East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), Nook Appeal

One of Norwich’s best-loved department stores has become the latest company to sign up to the nook business network.

Jarrolds is the 39th member of an ever-growing corporate group that exists to support East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), specifically the charity’s nook appeal.

The twice-UK Independent Department Store of the Year has pledged to raise £10,000 for the appeal, that was launched in November 2014 to raise £10 million for a new, purpose-built children’s hospice in Framingham Earl.

Jarrolds has chosen the good cause as one of three to give its backing until 2020, with the other lucky beneficiaries being Big C and the Prince’s Trust.

The store plans to award money from its carrier bag sales and host a fashion show among its fundraising activities.

Carole Slaughter, Jarrolds Charity Co-ordinator, said: “Jarrolds have been a supporter of EACH for many years and are delighted to now become a member of the Nook business network with a pledge to raise £10,000 towards the new purpose built children’s hospice in Norfolk.

The monies will be raised by Jarrolds staff and customers through a variety of activities over the coming months as part of the Jarrolds 250 Fundraising Initiative.”

 Sophie Mayes, EACH Norfolk Corporate Fundraiser, said: “We’re really excited to be working with such a popular store as Jarrolds and can’t wait to see what staff get up to in order to fulfil their pledge."

 “Foundations for our new hospice were dug out in November after the nook appeal hit £7 million, so we’re edging ever closer to making our vision for improved children’s palliative care in Norfolk a reality. We will need continued support to raise the final £3 million, though, so it’s fantastic news that Jarrolds is joining our business network.”
