Jarrold’s toy department, home to many children’s (and adults) favourites from Lego and Playmobil, to the must-have board games, has won the accolade of Department Store Retailer of the Year at the Toy Industry Awards 2017.
Organised by the British Toy and Hobby Association with the Toy Retailers Association, the awards were presented at a gala event held at Olympia in London as part of the 65th annual Toy Fair.
Jarrold toy buyer Selina Clarke said that the award proved that independent retailers can stand shoulder to shoulder with the bigger brands: “Jarrold was nominated for the award by the UK toy industry so it is nice to be recognised as a family run, independent retailer who has a lot to offer the toy customer. The breadth of toys and games we have, the events that we offer on the toy department throughout the year and our knowledgeable customer service all played a part in us winning this award, it was a real team effort.
“We were also recognised for the work we do in the community from donating ex-display toys and games to local schools, to supporting bigger events, which includes the recent success of the Brickwonders Around the World in Lego Bricks exhibition at The Forum.”
Other notable winners included brands such as Rubik’s Cube which won retro toy of the year, Fingerlings which won interactive toy of the year and Playmobil who won the special recognition award.
