Jarrold is the one to watch
Jarrold has won the accreditation as the One To Watch in the Best Employer of the Eastern Region awards 2018. We catch up with HR Manager Laura London to find out more.
What is the Best Employers Eastern Region initiative?
It’s an employee engagement survey founded by Pure in partnership with Birketts, Eras and Archant. Basically we asked our colleagues here at Jarrold to fill in the survey and then Pure collated this information and rated it against other businesses in the region. The results will be part of a catalogue of the great places to work in the region, which aims to highlight the Eastern region as a great place to work.
Great news that Jarrold has been given the One To Watch accolade – what does this mean for the business?
To be recognised as one of the best employers in the region is great and also very humbling, especially as it was our colleagues who helped us win this accreditation. The award goes to everyone who works in the business because we create the culture together. It is also a great way to showcase our employer brand and to attract and retain great people.
What did Jarrold have to do to achieve this status?
The survey was filled in by 73% of our colleagues, and we achieved an engagement score of 75%, which put us in the zone that is ideal for businesses to be in terms of the level of engagement from their employees. This meant that we were invited to apply for accreditation. It was the first time that we have taken part in a survey of this kind so to get the One to Watch is a great achievement.
How does Jarrold engage its employees?
We have a great culture here. We are an independent family run business and this really runs through all aspects of the business. In fact when you work at Jarrold you are seen as one of the family. Working as part of a team was a really strong value that came out of our survey.
Was there anything that came up in the survey results that Jarrold wants to improve?
There are always things to learn from our colleagues. Two of the main action points to come from this survey are that we want to invest more time in learning and development and wellbeing initiatives. Our colleagues are a massively important part of the business – they are our point of difference. All of them have something brilliant to offer and everyone adds value to the business.
Now that Jarrold has won the One to Watch what’s next?
Along with working on the points raised in the survey relating to colleague learning and development and wellbeing, we are planning to have regular pulse surveys so that we can continue to get valuable feedback from our colleagues. We also plan to complete the next Best Employer of the Eastern Region survey in 2020 with the hope of bettering our score and achieve the gold or platinum award at least!
