Ask the stylist: What should I pack for my holiday?
It’s almost time to go on holiday and although you might or might not yet know where you are going this year, when it comes to what to pack it’s time to get savvy, says our men's personal stylist Tim Benns
Going on holiday is one of the most exciting times of the year. You’ve booked the hotel, you have scheduled your flight, now all you want to do is get there and relax in the sun by the pool.
However, there is something you must do before you can go all ‘Viva la Espana’ – pack.
To some, this can be a chore. Deciding what to wear today takes effort let alone trying to coordinate an entire two-week wardrobe. Some of you may not know what clothes to take. Some of you will always pack for any eventuality, resulting in your suitcase costing you more at check-in, while others may not pack enough. Then there are the last minute shoppers, hoping that they can find all they need the day before take-off or even in the duty-free.
Clothes shopping might feel like a chore, but if you plan ahead it can take away the hassle.
First of all where are you going? If you’re heading off to a hot climate and will be spending your days on the beach you will need different attire to if you are going on a trekking holiday to the Lake District.
Esprit Hawaiian Motif T shirt
Gant Palm Beach swim shorts
Havaianas Brasil Logo flip flops
For those beaching it this summer, a trip to our men’s summer shop is a must. Here you will find tropical print swim shorts from Gant, Tommy Hilfiger and Ted Baker, cotton printed and plain T shirts from Esprit and the must-have Havaianas flip flops. Accessorise with a good quality pair of sunglasses and a hat, such as a panama or trilby, which will look equally as good on the beach and at the bar when worn with a linen jacket and trousers.
Barbour Casey short sleeved shirt
White Stuff Charlie chino shorts
Crew Clothing Ashton lightweight blazer
A tailored short in either cotton or linen and a lightweight shirt, be it short sleeved or long for the evening is always a winning look. A jacket can be popped on with this to add a soft, but constructed aspect, and provide a little bit of protection against the cooling evening breeze. Gagliardi, our in-house tailoring experts, have some wonderful linen options from suits to stand alone jackets and trousers. The brand’s Mediterranean heritage makes it the perfect choice for that semi formal look.
So now you are all set to look forward to some relaxing time away, safe in the knowledge that no wardrobe malfunctions are likely to happen and you’ll be as stylish as George Clooney on vacation at the Amalfi Coast.
