Q and A: Karen Millen CEO Beth Butterwick 


Karen Millen is one of our new concessions at Jarrold this autumn, so we grabbed five minutes with CEO Beth Butterwick to find out about what will be on offer for you to shop for the new season


It’s exciting news that Karen Millen is coming here to Jarrold – what were the deciding factors to come to Norwich’s leading independent department store?  

When we look at our CRM data we can see that Norwich is a strong and wide catchment area for existing and potential Karen Millen clients. Jarrolds, a beautiful department store, is the perfect location to showcase a new Karen Millen aesthetic. We are really excited about surprising and delighting Jarrold's customers from August 17 onwards

As a British brand, we love your mix of trend-led and timeless style investment pieces – what are the key looks for AW17 that we will see in-store? 

There are two key themes: Come Undone - more structured tailoring and soft separates in asymmetric cuts, an 80's feel with the theme of corsetry running through; and Victoriana -  more ornate in fabric, detail and fit, a day-to-evening collection, underpinned by rich, textural fabrics and touches of military influences. Military, Victoriana and corsetry details thread through our bags and footwear collection, too. When you are working on forward collections you spend your life wishing the new season was already here!

Norfolk is your second home, as you have a place in North Norfolk – what do you love most about the area?

For me, Norfolk is England's Secret Garden, a combination of lavender fields and miles of stunning sandy beaches and only a few hours from London - this county is truly heaven on earth.  My husband's family both live and holiday here - so our time is spent catching up, living an outdoor life and eating delicious local produce. Several other retail colleagues have also chosen to make Norfolk their base; once discovered, it's easy to see, why.

Ask the stylists: Jarrold stylists Florrie Dunn and Kate Reeve pick their three favourite pieces from the AW17 collection from Karen Millen: 

Florrie says: Tailoring, and in particular the trouser suit will be your go-to piece this autumn and winter. Make a statement and wear it on it's own or separately for work, weekend and evenings out. 

Kate says: All-in-one dressing continues to be a trend for autumn and winter with jumpsuits becoming wearable for the day as well as evening. Get one in pink, red or purple and you will be on-trend this season. 

Florrie says: The fluted dress is a catwalk trend that has migrated to the high street and I'm sure that you will fall in love with this flattering shape as much as we have.
