Ask the personal beauty consultant: How can I quickly update my makeup for spring?

Get cheeky with it and think blusher. A flush of blush can make your skin appear brighter, bronzed and more alive! Here’s how to get it right for you, says Jarrold personal beauty consultant Paris Cressy.

Blusher is one of my fave everyday makeup products. Suddenly with a stroke of blusher your skin looks fresher, you have more colour and your look is instantly transformed. However, sometimes finding the correct colour and texture of blusher to suit your colouring and skin can be challenging. So here’s my guide on how you can ensure that you get the right blusher for you.

What does blusher do?

Foundation will automatically even out your skin tone, but can leave your skin looking flat – and this is where blusher comes to the rescue. A touch of blush adds a flush of colour to your cheeks and sculpts your cheekbones, giving an instant glow to your face.

What blusher is best – powder or cream?

Blushers come in generally two textures powder and cream. Powder blushers are great to add a touch of colour and sparkle to your cheeks and also preferable if you tend to have an oilier skin. Cream blushers are fantastic at giving your cheeks a smooth dewy outdoorsy look.

My favourite cream blushers are:

Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Formentera

Paris says: "This product is so versatile as you can double up to use on your lips too."

Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop

My favourite powder blushers are:

MAC Sheertone Powder Blush in Peachykeen

Paris says: "This is my absolute fave, as it looks great on most skin tones."

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in Coral

MAC 129S Powder/Blush Brush

Paris says: "This is my favourite brush as it doubles up as a powder brush too."

How should I apply blusher?

If you are using a powder blush, smile into a mirror and using a blusher brush sweep blush gently across the apple of your cheeks. Remember, less is more when applying blusher!

For cream blusher, apply to the apple of your cheeks with your fingers. The warmth of your finger tips will help the product glide on your skin.
