Ask the beauty consultant: It’s all about the base

When it comes to creating the latest makeup looks it all starts with a good base that highlights and colour corrects your skin. Jarrold Personal Beauty Consultant Paris Cressy shares his tips on how to find the right foundation for you.

It’s all about the base. Get your foundation right and the rest of your makeup look will follow. For some, shopping for the foundation that not only looks good but feels comfortable on your skin can be a challenge, so here are a few simple steps you can follow to make sure you are wearing the right shade and type for you. Take this checklist with you when you are shopping for the perfect base and you can’t go wrong!

Paris' top tips for shopping for your foundation

Always have an idea of the coverage you require e.g. light, medium or full.

Know the finish you want to achieve from your foundation e.g. matte, glowy, semi-matte.

Always try the foundation on your neck or chin where there is no foundation sitting already. Ensure the beauty advisor shows you in natural light so you are aware of the true colour of the foundation.

An SPF is essential to protect the skin from UVA and UVB aggressors.

Consider anti-ageing foundation....the multi benefits of this foundation type is always a plus!

Always take a sample of the foundation to try at home. This will allow you to see how the foundation wears and that the colour is perfect in all lights.

Try to match the colour of the foundation to your natural skin tone. Foundation is there to even out the complexion not to make your skin lighter or darker.

Depending on the foundation always ask the beauty advisor the best way to apply...whether a brush, sponge or fingers.

Aim to do a bit of research before coming into store so as to get an understanding of what you would like to try...otherwise you can feel overwhelmed with the amount of choice!

Always ensure you prep your skin with moisturiser before applying your preferred foundation.
