This is a vivid account of the epic contribution made by the people of East Anglia and Lincolnshire to the history of Colonial America and the USA. No other five British counties have gifted such a band of fascinating characters to the New World – many great, many good and, it must be confessed, a handful bad and ugly! Armchair historians, tourists and day-trippers alike will find here a person-by-person, location-by-location guide to over thirty places in Eastern England where they can put themselves in touch with these memorable individuals and their triumphs and disasters here and on the far side of the Atlantic.

Enjoy reading about characters as varied as the ‘scandalous and malignant’ Essex priest who was President George Washington’s direct ancestor, the traitorous tax collector from Norfolk who came up with the very name ‘The United States of America’, the East Anglian troops who burned down The White House, the founding family of Harley Davidson motorbikes . . . and many, many more.
