Food Bloggers Event

Celebrating the best of Norfolk food & drink

On Monday 6th October we hosted a food blogging event to celebrate the Norfolk Food & Drink Festival and the launch of our new restaurant Benji’s.

We invited 5 influential food bloggers from in and around Norwich to sample food from Benji’s new menu as well as watch live demos with Jarrolds head chef, Nick Harris.

Following a brand new Moroccan inspired makeover, the restaurant welcomed the bloggers in with champagne and an array of tantalising treats! The Benji’s catering team presented our guests with chicken in tempura batter with a smoked chilli jam; Norfolk crab cocktail croute with chilli, mint and mango and finally, locally produced Fielding Cottage goats curd with raw beetroot canapés.

After a quick introduction, Nick began his cooking demonstration of what was soon to be our main meal for the evening; Sea bass on a bed of Norfolk grown artichokes, samphire, salsa verde and roasted baby tomatoes.

After the demonstration was over we led our bloggers down to the housewares department where they had a chance to explore the department before Jennifer Read and Sarah Pheysey our housewares buyer and manager talked through Emma Bridgewater’s collections and the inspiration behind their stunning designs.

The tour came to an end with a demonstration of Sage by Heston Blumenthal juicer. This easy to use kitchen appliance is a must-have in any kitchen! Sarah created a perfect palate cleanser of apple, carrot and ginger juice before we headed back upstairs to Benji’s for dinner.

As the bloggers re-entered the restaurant the tables were set with what can only be described as food theatre! The multiple platters were crammed full of seafood, meats and vegetarian treats! From the quirky vegetarian garden box presented in fun flower pots to a butchers board crammed full of delicious meats and dips.

Shortly after, the exquisite sea bass course was presented by Nick and his team. Served with seasonal vegetables and currently available on Benji’s new menu this is definitely one to try!

After dinner, we led our bloggers downstairs to finish the evening sampling local cheeses and chocolates.

Sam Streggles from family run Fielding Cottage kindly popped in to meet and talk to our bloggers about his company and to sample two types of his delicious cheeses; the Norfolk Mardler and the Wensum White. Both cheeses are currently available from the Jarrolds deli and would be ideal as an after dinner treat.

To end the evening Marcel from Dolce Momento presented the bloggers with a tray of melt in the mouth gooey chilli, milk and dark chocolates served with a nespresso. Delicious!

We'd like to thank Sam from Fielding Cottage, Marcel from Dolce Momento and all the lovely guest bloggers for attending our evening. Please take some time to look and their fantastic blog posts!
