Blue Calico,Burleigh's famous deep cobalt blue pattern was derived from early Victorian designs which in turn had roots in Chinese porcelain; the deep cobalt blue print representing fallen prunus blossom onto cracked ice. Blue Felicity has a small delicate flower pattern reminiscent of elder flowers in a gentle pale blue originating from the 1930's.
A speciality of Burleigh, underglaze transfer printing is a highly skilled hand decorating process has been in use for over 200 years. Burleigh are now the last English pottery company that still this traditional labour intensive method.
