Christmas was Charles Dickens' favourite season for story telling. The Charles Dickens five tales that make up the Christmas Books were first published separately, A Christmas Carol, The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle for Life and The Haunted Man. They were collected and published as a single volume in 1852. These stories, especially A Christmas Carol, have become a part of Christmas itself: a reminder of simple, family pleasures – just as Dickens intended.
